America's national debt has officially crossed $40 trillion for the first time. At the same time, questions are growing about government spending, inflation, Treasury markets, the purchasing power of the U.S. dollar—and what all of this could eventually mean for ordinary Americans.

So what happens next?

President Donald Trump has opposed the creation of a U.S. Central Bank Digital Currency, while simultaneously supporting Bitcoin, cryptocurrency, blockchain technology and other digital assets. What's the difference between a CBDC, Bitcoin, cryptocurrency, blockchain and a digital asset? And does banning a CBDC eliminate the possibility of a future system capable of controlling how people buy and sell?

Revelation 13 describes an end-time system in which economic participation will ultimately be restricted based on allegiance to the Beast. Scripture does not identify a CBDC, Bitcoin or any modern financial technology as the Mark of the Beast. But as money becomes increasingly digital, Christians should understand the technology—and the biblical prophecy.
